The 82nd annual Academy Awards® have come and gone with winners from the big night ranging from war film The Hurt Locker as Best Picture to Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock taking home Leading Actor and Actress, respectively. Mo’Nique and Christoph Waltz’s roles in Precious and Inglourious Basterds earned them Supporting Actress and Actor honors while Hurt Locker filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman in OSCARS® history to win the Directing statue. Avatar’s fantasy world of Pandora was deemed worthy of three awards while Disney’s Up garnered a pair and the dolphin-friendly film The Cove was named Best Documentary Feature. It would seem that everyone but the losing nominees were happy with how the ceremony went, but in the few days that have followed, a number of interesting stories have cropped up about who was snubbed, insulted and in one case, almost prevented from reaching the Kodak Theatre stage after winning one of the trophies.

Film and TV actress Farrah Fawcett, who passed away last year at the age of 62, was omitted from the “In Memoriam” segment of the show, prompting outrage from her family and friends. A representative from the Academy Awards has since come forth to say that a tribute to her at last year’s Emmys was more appropriate, given her fame from such shows as Charlie’s Angels. This morning, Sirius Radio personality Howard Stern unleashed a nasty diatribe against Precious actress Gabourey Sidibe and Oprah Winfrey claiming the actress’ life in show business is effectively over following her Leading Actress loss to Sandra Bullock and that Oprah is a “liar” for telling the 27-year-old she’s “going to have a career.” Finally, there’s the peculiar story of the producers from Music for Prudence, winner of the Academy Award® for Best Documentary Short. When the film’s name was revealed, producer Roger Ross Williams ran to accept the award, while his 87-year old mother allegedly tried to prevent the other producer Elinor Burkett from making her way to the stage within the 45-second acceptance speech window. As it turns out, the two producers are in the midst of a legal battle surrounding the film, but these circumstances with an elderly Mom blocking the way inside Kodak Theatre are just too bizarre to ignore.

Call it a case of superhero one-upsmanship. Only days after Superman’s debut in Action Comics No. 1 sold at auction for the stratospheric price of $1 Million US Dollars, the first appearance of Batman in Detective Comics No. 27 trumped it by going to a private bidder for the new record amount of $1,075,500. Heritage Auction Galleries handled the comic book’s sale, whose condition was graded as equal to Action Comics No. 1 – an 8.0 out of 10 or “Very Fine.”

So what does this previously unimaginable price tag mean for the comic book marketplace and superhero worship in general? Well, it’s a victory for all collectors who have successfully preserved their comics with hopes of a big pay day in the years to come. Attic-cleaning moms will have to devise new strategies once the children find out that their comics, given enough time, could command decades’ worth of salary from hero-hungry buyers.

Fictional fantasy figures such as Superman and Batman are at a high-water mark of popularity in the comic book community. Combine the larger-than-life reputations of these idols with the scarcity of their debut issues and you have a perfect storm leading to mind-boggling dollar amounts such as these. Setting an “official public record” for a comic book at auction, Action Comics No. 1 has sold for the incredible sum of $1 Million US Dollars. Revered for being the first appearance of Krypton’s Man of Steel, Superman, the 1938 comic fetched over Half a Million Dollars more than previous sales of the same issue due to its condition being graded higher – an 8 out of possible 10 or Very Fine. Auction website ComicConnect.com handled the private transaction, and it is believed that there are only 100 copies of this comic book remaining in existence.

With a face value of 10 cents, the Million Dollar sale has received a considerable amount of attention, making headlines in both the comic book community as well as mainstream media. In our opinion, this collectible’s value reinforces the Superman character’s continuing reputation as a symbol of all things good and true in society. Working in the costume industry, it seems like we’re finding out about fun, new holidays just about all the time. Case in point: Today, February 3rd, is National Carrot Cake Day. The history behind why this time of winter was chosen to honor the sweet, moist, yet still slightly nutritious dessert is a little spotty, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to celebrate any less fervently.

Today in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the technology behemoth’s newest addition to their arsenal of popular gizmos.  Named iPad, this tablet-shaped personal computer device looks like an over-sized iPhone but functions like a MacBook with a touch-screen.  Our hastily-drafted description doesn’t do the gadget justice, visit the official Apple site to see and read more about the iPad by clicking here or on the photo above.

Yesterday’s AFC and NFC Championship Games have determined the teams who will appear in Super Bowl XLIV. Over 10 years have passed since Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 2 was in theatres and fans of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Hamm, Rex and the Potato Heads will be thrilled to find out that another sequel is set for release in mid-2010. It’s official, after three incredibly successful films and a US box office gross of over $1 Billion, Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment are parting ways with the actor and director team that made the Spider-Man movie franchise the mega-hit it is. When Spider-Man 4 reaches theaters in 2012, Tobey Maguire won’t be underneath the iconic red and blue suit and Sam Raimi won’t be behind the camera lens; instead the film is going to try a “new direction” and a “fresh start” for this next chapter. It was less than a week ago that word leaked out John Malkovich would portray super-villain Vulture for this fourth installment, but the bombshell that Tobey and Sam are now out throws quite a sizeable wrench in those plans. In fact, question marks follow almost everyone in the proposed cast as this sequel is intended as a “reboot” with Peter Parker once again an unsuspecting high school student bitten by a genetically altered spider.

The beginning of 2010 has been a tumultuous time at NBC. Come February 12th, The Jay Leno Show will be axed from its daily 10 pm slot and word is that the veteran entertainer will return to a place in the network’s late night lineup. Of course, this news doesn’t thrill his Tonight Show successor Conan O’Brien, who is seemingly left with a less-than-desirable choice: push back his program to a midnight start, or leave NBC altogether!

These kinds of ratings-based rearrangements really aren’t anything out of the ordinary in the realm of TV, but it’s the fans and friends of each host that are making negotiations all the more interesting. Sides are being taken, lines drawn and even legendary funnyman Jerry Seinfeld has spoken up, offering a few comments on the (laughing) matter. Seeing as how his new show The Marriage Ref premieres next month on NBC, it’s no surprise he’d like to get in the middle of this potentially monumental rift.

Rock Band designers Harmonix and MTV Games wasted no time after this big win, revealing that the next group to be digitally immortalized is none other than Green Day!

Green Day: Rock Band is expected to have a late-summer or fall 2010 release so eager gamers are going to have to be a little patient until then. The Princess and the Frog re-interprets a classic fairytale story but adds an entirely new twist. It’s set in 1920s New Orleans so the music by famed composer Randy Newman is sure to be a real treat. The trailer is chock full of hilarious characters (both human and animal) and the animation’s visual style holds nothing back as the hand-drawn movie is seen through a rainbow of colors.

There are a few famous voices in the film, including Oprah Winfrey and John Goodman, but it’s actress Anika Noni Rose who is sure to draw the most attention as the heroine Princess Tiana.

Think the story sounds mind-blowing?  Well just try and imagine how much the movie cost to make (estimates are over $300 Million) in the 14 years Cameron has been kicking this fantastic tale around.

Because the beloved Derek Jeter has been announced as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year!

The Yankee star has had several championships with the franchise and other achievements, but this one is of much significance.

Although this is the 27th World Championship for the Bronx Bombers, this is the first time a Yankee has ever received this award.

Jeter expressed his honor for this award at the official ceremony and stated,

“When you think about being a good sportsman, there’s a lot of things that come to mind, People tell you it’s success on the baseball field, and I think that’s part of it. I also think there’s a lot of qualities that go into it — hard work, dedication, pride, humility. These are all things that I learned at a very young age.”

Tiger Woods was recently involved in a  car accident in front of his Florida home.

At first speculation was of DUI or careless driving…But multiple sources have revealed his wife as the catalyst for his injuries.

And why….?

Because Mrs. Woods is reportedly a woman scorned! Several reports have surfaced of an alleged affair with the already infamous husband stealer Rachel Uchitel, a NY night club hostess.

It was said that Tiger’s wife was responsible for the lacerations on his face, in addition to the accident in its entirety.

Lesson learned Tiger? We certainly hope so!

The film grossed 20.7 million over Halloween weekend, but numbers were lower than what Sony anticipated. However, the film still took the number one spot.

We are mere days away from the most colorful, creative and frightfully fun time of the year: Halloween!  But before you send your costumed candy-collectors out into the neighborhood on their annual harvest of sweets, study up on safety and consider the following advice.  Always assemble Halloween costumes with care, using only non-flammable materials, and examine the outfit’s length to make certain no fabric or Accessories are dangling or can get tangled up while traveling from door-to-door.  If a Mask is part of the Halloween disguise, be sure to have adequate visibility through the eye holes and that all noises from nearby cars or people can be clearly heard through ear holes.  When approaching an unfamiliar home on the haunted holiday, only knock or ring the doorbell if a porch light is on and the house appears inviting to dressed-up guests.  Avoid barking dogs and dark yards as you make the rounds, adhere to all traffic rules and stop lights when crossing streets and try to travel in groups of 2 or more, keeping a close eye on each other using the buddy system.  Before sampling the treats that kids have been given, parents should inspect the snacks, making sure all the packages are still factory sealed before the long-awaited ripping, tearing and devouring begins.  A little preparedness and planning is all that’s needed for Halloween to go off without a hitch.  Have a blast, scare yourself (and others) silly, but keep your wits about you because while October 31st may only come once a year, like a zombie hungry for brains, it will return before you know it!

Final preparations are in the works to make this Halloween the best one ever.  Decorations are being put up, turning normal residences into sinister Haunted Houses.  Moms and Dads are helping their Kids assemble creative disguises for the big day.  Costume parties this weekend and next are being organized for grown-up guys and girls who want to celebrate with spooky, sexy spirit.  Bowls full of candy set out by the front door are waiting for eager groups of Trick-or-Treaters to come collecting.  We’re overjoyed that the holiday is nearly upon us and for all the last minute shoppers out there, there’s still just enough time to pick an outfit and Accessories for fast shipping right to your door.  Halloween is a week away but the scariest thing we can think of is being without a costume on October 31st – browse our choices and place your order today before it’s too late!

First stop was Minnesota where the Bronx Bombers swept the series 3-0.  Tonight, they face the L.A. Angels with whom they already lead 3-1.

Should be a good one as the battle of the coasts continues!

“I began thinking what the costume design would be for each season,” he says. Since Lost Treasure is set in autumn, “the weather is cooler, and her outfit should reflect that.”

One of the newest additions to the Saturday morning cartoon lineup has become a big hit – and just in time for Halloween.  The Super Hero Squad Show debuted on Cartoon Network in September and is now the #1 show of 2009 on CN for Boys 6-8 years old.  In fact, during its time slot of Saturdays at 8:30 AM, The Super Hero Squad Show also beat out all Disney XD, Disney, Nick Jr., Nicktoons, Teen Nick and Family Channel programs as well.  The best news of all is that starting soon, kids won’t have to wait for the weekend to see their favorite episodes because beginning October 19, The Super Hero Squad Show is going to air six days a week (Monday – Saturday) at 8:30 AM.  So add to the excitement of these action packed animated characters by picking out some costumes for everyone to wear.  Check out our selection of Captain America, Hulk, Wolverine and Iron Man disguises for the kids and Dr. Doom or Thor costumes for adults and make this Halloween a smash hit alongside the chart-topping comic book-inspired series.

What a generous archenemy/anti-hero?

While Venom appeared in Spider-Man 3,and played by Topher Grace, sources say this film will be produced completely from scratch.  Gary Ross, writer and director of “Seabiscuit“, will be taking on Venom, in addition to working on the script for Spider-Man 4.  Since the deal was just recently made, the film’s release is unknown…

Lets give a recent time line of the latest events that have turned Jon & Kate into an all out freak show:

-Jon announces a halt to the divorce- seeking mediation for Kate and himself…Wants Kate as a friend [Right!!....]

-TLC announces that Jon’s role will be drastically shortened, and the show’s name will be changed to Kate Plus 8.

-Jon halts production of the show: citing concern for his children as reason.  A sign posted outside the Gosselin’s residence prohibits production crews or any TLC staff.

-Jon violates an agreement which is part of their divorce proceedings and withdraws $230,000 from a joint account with Kate….But wait, hes not a complete clown- he left her $1,000! [LOSER!]

Things are looking to turn into a complete circus between the two…But Kate continues to remain classy, and hopefully the children won’t continue to be affected…

Whatever happens, we will be sure to watch…
