Think you’re the ultimate devotee of the The Simpsons? Well, FOX has arranged a deviously maniacal plan to weed out casual fans from the truly hardcore followers by staging a TV marathon in Hollywood like you’ve never seen before. As Mr. Montgomery Burns would say…”Excellent!”
To honor the 500th episode of the animated series airing on February 19th, and in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Continuous Television Viewing, a competition has been arranged where the participant who stays awake the longest while watching The Simpsons will win a grand prize of $10,500.
The contest is being held at Hollywood and Highland and we went over to film the beginning of the event and share with our readers. Check out all the videos we shot here or click on one of YouTube links below:
The current Guinness World Record for Longest Continuous Television Viewing stands at 86 hours, 6 minutes and 41 seconds. We think Simpsons fanatics can easily top that, but can they survive all 500 episodes in a row without sleep? That’s 183 hours of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and all the other characters and guest stars over 23 seasons since 1990. You would truly have to be a fanatic to endure that much TV, so we’ll see who ends up emerging as the champion.
For now, check out our Simpsons costumes to celebrate the 500th episode of America’s favorite cartoon family and root on all the competitors vying for the cash. Over 10 grand is at stake…That’s a whole lot of “D’oh!”
