Lady Gaga’s Off the Hook Costumes from “Telephone”

Impossible-to-predict pop icon Lady Gaga has gone and done it again. Paired alongside sultry singer/actress Beyoncé, the music video for their song “Telephone” is equal parts racy, raunchy and captivating. In a throwback to exploitation films of the 1970s, the video takes viewers inside a dangerous (and sexually-charged) women’s prison, stops at an out-of-the-way diner that becomes a multiple murder crime scene and concludes on dusty roads as the duo try to outrun the cops fast on their trail. Trust us when we say that our description does the mini-movie no justice at all, you have to see it to believe it! If you’re brave enough, check it out here or by clicking the picture above – Warning: NSFW or the kids!!

Besides the gorgeous Beyoncé and a surprise appearance of Quentin Tarantino’s truck from Kill Bill: Volume 1, what caught our eye the most during the 9-minutes-plus running time were, of course, Lady Gaga’s flamboyant outfits. We’ve come to expect sexy prisoner uniforms, studded jackets and thong bikinis but what took it over the top was the Crime Scene Tape “dress,” her translucent chef’s hat and apron, and form-fitting leopard print bodysuit. If you’d like to create your own Lady Gaga-inspired look, mix and match our costume choices below. Lady Gaga reinvents the rules of fashion daily; follow her lead and think outside of the conventional if you want to make yourself stand out and apart from the crowd!

Predators Trailer Debuts at SXSW

The 2010 edition of Austin, Texas’ South by Southwest Festival has wrapped up and amongst all the musical happenings and headlines, one movie event that caught our eye was the unveiling of some footage from the upcoming film Predators. Producer Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn, Planet Terror) showed the first clips and considers Predators to be a direct sequel to 1987’s Predator as it follows a group of mercenaries and soldiers left to fight for their lives after being released into an alien world populated by the formidable creatures. The first trailer can be seen here or by clicking on the image above.

Although Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t a part of the cast for this project, the film has a strong roster of talent including Adrien Brody, Lawrence Fishburne, Topher Grace and Danny Trejo. We’ve been a fan of the action-packed franchise since its inception and had to endure some mediocre installments along the way, but after this initial glimpse Predators looks like a solid effort. It’s due to hit theaters this July, so gear up for the thrill of the hunt with some of our Predator costumes, masks and accessories below.

Greek Mythology and Moviegoers Clash!

The beginning of 2010 has been huge for ancient mythological Gods in the movies! Last month’s big-screen adaptation of the popular young adult series Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief starring Pierce Brosnan, Rosario Dawson and Uma Thurman showed there’s plenty of box office business for these powerful fantasy figures, but we suspect the biggest is yet to come. On April 2nd, Clash of the Titans will open in 3D (and 2D) at theaters nationwide and one look at the trailer is sure to get your blood pumping for this action-packed story.

Clash has a trio of high-profile actors at the helm – Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson – although the real star of this film may be the eye-popping special effects. The original Clash of the Titans was released in 1981 and featured amazing stop-motion animation from the legendary Ray Harryhausen, but this remake is taking an entirely different approach by using the newest CGI technology to spin its immortal, supernatural saga.

With only a few weeks remaining before this long-awaited omnipotent onslaught reaches theaters, now is the time to get your Classical Costume together. Gods and Goddesses, Heroes and Villains abound in our selection – including such iconic characters as Medusa, Venus, Athena and Aphrodite – as well as Ornate Accessories to complete your outfit. Greek Mythology tells a number of timeless tales; immerse yourself in these historical adventures when you wear an Ancient Greek Costume!

Wrapping Up OSCARS® Loose Ends

The 82nd annual Academy Awards® have come and gone with winners from the big night ranging from war film The Hurt Locker as Best Picture to Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock taking home Leading Actor and Actress, respectively. Mo’Nique and Christoph Waltz’s roles in Precious and Inglourious Basterds earned them Supporting Actress and Actor honors while Hurt Locker filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman in OSCARS® history to win the Directing statue. Avatar’s fantasy world of Pandora was deemed worthy of three awards while Disney’s Up garnered a pair and the dolphin-friendly film The Cove was named Best Documentary Feature. It would seem that everyone but the losing nominees were happy with how the ceremony went, but in the few days that have followed, a number of interesting stories have cropped up about who was snubbed, insulted and in one case, almost prevented from reaching the Kodak Theatre stage after winning one of the trophies.

Film and TV actress Farrah Fawcett, who passed away last year at the age of 62, was omitted from the “In Memoriam” segment of the show, prompting outrage from her family and friends. A representative from the Academy Awards has since come forth to say that a tribute to her at last year’s Emmys was more appropriate, given her fame from such shows as Charlie’s Angels. This morning, Sirius Radio personality Howard Stern unleashed a nasty diatribe against Precious actress Gabourey Sidibe and Oprah Winfrey claiming the actress’ life in show business is effectively over following her Leading Actress loss to Sandra Bullock and that Oprah is a “liar” for telling the 27-year-old she’s “going to have a career.” Finally, there’s the peculiar story of the producers from Music for Prudence, winner of the Academy Award® for Best Documentary Short. When the film’s name was revealed, producer Roger Ross Williams ran to accept the award, while his 87-year old mother allegedly tried to prevent the other producer Elinor Burkett from making her way to the stage within the 45-second acceptance speech window. As it turns out, the two producers are in the midst of a legal battle surrounding the film, but these circumstances with an elderly Mom blocking the way inside Kodak Theatre are just too bizarre to ignore.

So we’ve assembled a few of our costumes to wear if you want to draw some controversy at the next disguise party, or just acknowledge the movies that won fair and square – including The Young Victoria from our favorite category, Costume Design. Leave it to Hollywood, there’s never a dull moment – on or off the set!

Batman Comic Fetches a Cool Mil, Too

Call it a case of superhero one-upsmanship. Only days after Superman’s debut in Action Comics No. 1 sold at auction for the stratospheric price of $1 Million US Dollars, the first appearance of Batman in Detective Comics No. 27 trumped it by going to a private bidder for the new record amount of $1,075,500. Heritage Auction Galleries handled the comic book’s sale, whose condition was graded as equal to Action Comics No. 1 – an 8.0 out of 10 or “Very Fine.”

So what does this previously unimaginable price tag mean for the comic book marketplace and superhero worship in general? Well, it’s a victory for all collectors who have successfully preserved their comics with hopes of a big pay day in the years to come. Attic-cleaning moms will have to devise new strategies once the children find out that their comics, given enough time, could command decades’ worth of salary from hero-hungry buyers.

Fictional fantasy figures such as Superman and Batman are at a high-water mark of popularity in the comic book community. Combine the larger-than-life reputations of these idols with the scarcity of their debut issues and you have a perfect storm leading to mind-boggling dollar amounts such as these. Few of us have the budget to afford such lucrative collectibles, but we can still live out the bravery of our comic book icons in other ways – such as costumes! While we’ve included a few Batman Costume options below, be sure to browse our site to see the full Superhero selection. Choose an adventurous alter-ego and wear their distinguished disguise but also hold onto your collection of printed character cartoons; the timeless stories of action and romance might end up becoming a sizeable retirement fund!
